CHEJ's goal was to convince major retailers-- Microsoft and Target Stores-- to phase out their poison plastic, PVC. We knew from the start that we needed to rally mothers and environmentalists into a national campaign demanding change. So we created the iconic Sam Suds and promoted his movie through a highly targeted marketing and action campaign. As a result, over 100 blogs as well as the dominant social networking and user-created content sites featured Sam Suds in the days following the movie's launch. Sam became a viral hit, reaching over 65,000 people within these niche communities. These audiences were then led to the CHEJ website to engage more fully in the PVC-free campaign. Thanks to CHEJ's campaign, Microsoft buckled under pressure and agreed to stop using PVC. Several months later, Target committed to systematically reducing PVC in their products and packaging.
